No Churn Oreo (Cookies & Cream) Ice Cream Recipe

By | April 1, 2017

If you get into ice cream making its only a matter of time before you will have to make cookies and cream as its such an iconic flavor. Most of the cookies and cream recipes these days utilize Oreos and this one is no exception. They work really well with their chocolate cookie qualities and actual cream in between, although you can also get them without the cream in between as the ice cream base acts as the "cream" as well. This recipe and flavor is bound to be a winner amongst friends and family so keep it in mind when you need a safe option. As another no churn recipe it also doesn't need a machine and can be whipped up in no time.

Yield ~ 1 litre / 1 quart

Prep time: 25 mins + 6 hours freezing

My rating: 5/5

The 'no churn' method is great for occasional batches but if you want to get serious about your ice cream making I suggest you invest in an ice cream maker designed for home use.

The two ice cream makers I recommend are the Cuisinart ICE-70 and the Breville BCI600 XL. Click the images below to read more about those two machines or check out my complete guide to ice cream makers to see all the options and read the pros and cons of each.

Notes

  • It's such a simple recipe that works so well that there's not much to say here except that the recipe suggest covering with foil before freezing whereas I'll say that I've always gone with either a container with a lid or put a piece of wax/parchment/bakers/greaseproof paper against the surface of the ice cream in the container and that works well to prevent ice crystals from forming on the surface
